Karonda scientifically, known as carissa carandas is an evergreen shrub that was originated in Himalayas thus making it an indigenous crop.
It is extensively cultivated along the northern mountains and Western ghats in India and also in countries like Nepal,Sri Lanka, China, US, Brazil and southeast Asian countries.
Fruit is called as kilakkai in Tamil language
The fruit is a berry, Unripe ones have a sour taste, greenish white in colour and after ripening turns into dark red or published with the delicious sweet flavour.
